The 2013 programme

Every year three themes are evaluated. Participants can choose to partake in evaluating all topics or just the ones they feel are most relevant to them.

F237 Strategic management

This topic (which was last reviewed in 2005) will explore and compare the procedures adopted to identify, consider, and approve the university's strategic plans, as well as how implementation is monitored and adapted in response to changing political and economic contexts.

Assessor: Professor Sir David Watson – Professor of Higher Education and Principal, Green Templeton College, Oxford, UK; formerly Vice Chancellor, University of Brighton, UK

F238 Estates and facilities

This topic (last reviewed in 2007) will examine how the university identifies and manages its strategic approach to making the best use of its estates and facilities. The topic will not look at operational aspects, but will focus on the forward visionary aspects, including anticipated changes in teaching and learning methodologies.

Assessor: Nicola Collier-Jackson – Director of Campus Life, Griffith University, Australia, and President of the Australasian Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association (TEFMA)

F239 Commercialisation

This topic (last reviewed in 2004) will look at a range of approaches to managing commercialisation, including how to maximise the potential and make most effective use of available assets, both physical and intellectual. It will include some consideration of how to manage intellectual property and the risks associated with commercial enterprise.

Assessor: Mike Volker – Director, Innovation Office, Simon Fraser University, Canada

The face-to-face workshop will be hosted by Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada from 26-28 August 2013. If required, a second cohort workshop will be held in October 2013 (venue TBD).
