ACU-BNET Fellowships in Education

ACU-BNET Fellowships in Education

Published on 04 October 2016

The ACU is pleased to be working with The Britain-Nigeria Education Trust (BNET) and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria to offer two new fellowships in education hosted by Ahmadu Bello.

The fellowships are intended for academic staff working in departments of education and related fields at ACU member universities in all Commonwealth countries other than Nigeria.

The aim of the fellowships is to enable the sharing of knowledge and expertise in the field of education between Ahmadu Bello and ACU members in other countries. Fellows will travel to Zaria for two to three weeks each year, over a three-year period. They will act as visiting external examiners for courses in the Faculty of Education, contribute to curriculum development, and deliver at least one lecture or seminar per trip.

Dr John Kirkland OBE, ACU Deputy Secretary General, said:, 'This is a great opportunity for Faculties of Education at ACU member institutions to forge links with Ahmadu Bello University, an innovative institution in Northern Nigeria which is itself looking for increased opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing across borders. We are delighted to be working with BNET on this new project, which fits perfectly within the ACU's mission to promote and support excellence in higher education throughout the Commonwealth.'

Ahmadu Bello University was founded in 1961 by Sir Ahmadu Bello, a major political figure in Nigeria in the mid-twentieth century; the first and only premier of the Northern Nigeria region. The university's vision is to be a world-class institution engaged in imparting contemporary knowledge, using high quality facilities and multi-disciplinary approaches, as well as generating new ideas and intellectual practices relevant to the needs of its immediate community, Nigeria and the world at large.

Zaria is a city of 400,000 people in Kaduna State, Northern Nigeria, 200 miles from Abuja. The city is known for being an artisanal hub and centre of the textile industry. As well as Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria is home to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology and the palace of the emir of Zazzau.

More information on the fellowships, including how to apply, can be found here. The deadline for applications is 5pm (GMT) on Friday 11 November 2016.
