New ACU Council members appointed

Three new members have been elected to join the ACU Council. The new members are:

Engr Ahmed Farooq BazaiBalochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences, Pakistan

Professor Stuart CorbridgeDurham University, UK

Professor Deep Saini University of Canberra, Australia

These appointments follow on from Dr David Atkinson and Professor Rajesh Chandra standing down from their roles on Council.

The Council is the ACU's governing body, made up of an elected group of university vice-chancellors who represent member institutions across the Commonwealth. The Council is collectively responsible for overseeing the ACU's activities and determining its future direction, including its mission and strategic vision, long-term business plans, and annual budgets. As the ACU is a UK-registered charity, Council members also act as its trustees.

The ACU Council meets at least twice a year, with each member serving a term of three years. The next meeting takes place on Wednesday 30 November 2016, followed by a half-day seminar on Science diplomacy and the Sustainable Development Goals, and the ACU's Annual General Meeting on Thursday 1 December 2016.
