Earlier this year, the ACU Gender Programme introduced grants to help member universities organise workshops to promote gender equity in higher education.

Workshop topics vary and include a range of focus areas, such as, gender mainstreaming in universities, addressing sexual and gender-based harassment and violence on campus, women in leadership, and women in science and research.

The grants were awarded competitively to 10 universities across the Commonwealth. The successful applicants for 2016-17 are:

• Charles Sturt University, Australia
• Nirma University – Institute of Law, India
• University of Delhi – Women's Studies and Development Centre, India
• The University of Hong Kong – Women's Studies Research Centre, Hong Kong
• The University of Papua New Guinea – School of Business and Public Policy, Papua New Guinea
• The University of the West Indies, St Augustine – Institute for Gender and Development Studies, Trinidad and Tobago
• University of Hull, UK
• Zambian Open University, Lusaka, Zambia

Through the Gender Programme, the ACU has been committed to advancing gender equity throughout the Commonwealth for over 30 years, by providing training, running workshops and conferences, and supplying free resources.
