Published on 28 June 2017

On Thursday 22 June Asia House hosted a conference and panel debate in partnership with the University of Nottingham – an ACU member – on 'the future of the global knowledge economy in an era of resurgent nationalism'.

The panel debate saw Dr Joanna Newman join a panel of experts from government, industry and the higher education sector. Common themes included the role of universities in creating the jobs of the future, particularly in context of technology taking over jobs; sustainable funding of – and access to – higher education; developing life-long students and equipping students with the skills they need to succeed.

During the debate, Joanna particularly spoke about the challenge presented by the growing numbers wanting access to higher education and where they go after this. She also highlighted that universities are the powerhouses responsible for creating new technologies.
