The future of research collaboration in the Commonwealth

The vast potential for Commonwealth universities to network and form research partnerships is highlighted in the latest issue of Times Higher Education.

Featuring views from Dr Joanna Newman, ACU Chief Executive and Secretary General, Ben Prasadam-Halls, ACU Director of Programmes, Dhanjay Jhurry, ACU Council member and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, and Barnabas Nawangwe, Vice-Chancellor of Makerere, Uganda, the article highlights how the Commonwealth is 'well placed to help grow research collaboration in several ways'.

Analysis of Times Higher Education university rankings data highlights trends in research collaboration and outputs, and shows how Commonwealth universities compare to those in the United States, China, and the EU. Some key findings show that for Malaysia, universities in the UK and Australia are the top source of research collaboration, whereas in Canada the highest proportion of collaboration is with the United States.

The importance of strengthening research collaboration between Commonwealth countries will be a key issue on the agenda at the 20th Conference of Commonwealth Ministers in Fiji, where the ACU will be representing its members.
