New methods of measuring research support

Is it possible to measure the effectiveness of university research officers in supporting academics? This was the question asked by ten international universities at an ACU benchmarking group, held in Sydney, Australia, last week.

In addition to considering specific performance indicators for their offices, the group devised a comprehensive list of good practice statements to guide universities, such as relations with research staff, the role of the research office in developing strategy, and promoting good quality research applications.
