ACU Fellowships: supporting academic mobility in the Commonwealth

Published on 23 March 2018

The ACU is committed to advancing academic mobility in the Commonwealth – ACU Fellowships support this aim by encouraging collaboration, knowledge sharing and the creation of new networks.

Each fellowship has a specific remit, such as the Martha Farrell Memorial Fellowship, which provides training to reduce gender-based violence and sexual harassment on campuses, and the George Weston Fellowship, which supports research in food science and technology, agriculture and forestry.

Previous fellows have used their fellowships to undertake crucial research, develop new partnerships and build networks across the Commonwealth – two recent examples include:

Mohammad Mojibur Rahman, Associate Professor at the University of Dhaka's Institute of Education and Research, was the first Martha Farrell Fellow in 2016. As a result of his fellowship, he has introduced an anti-sexual harassment policy at his institution, and has spoken about his experience and the need for strategic policy intervention to tackle sexual harassment at an international academic conference in Brussels.

Last year's University of Oxford Fellowship was awarded to Opha Pauline Dube. As a Visiting Fellow at Linacre College, Professor Dube spent a month with the School of Geography and Environment, in the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), observing its teaching and research, and contributing to this through the delivery of three seminars focused on climate change, resilience building and the Anthropocene.
