Published on 03 April 2018

Members of the ACU’s HR in HE Community shared their expertise with registrars and HR practitioners at a recent international conference in Lahore, Pakistan.

Taking place from 20-21 March 2018, the conference was organised by the Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS), University of the Punjab – an ACU member institution – and focused on the theme ‘Governance, Management & Human Resources: Strategic Directions'.

In line with this, Jennifer Ellis, Chair of the ACU HR in HE Community, and Tarrance Ryder-Downes, Head of HR at the ACU, conducted a workshop on ‘Strategic Positioning of HR in Higher Education Institutions: The Evolving role of University HR’.

This workshop enabled participants to gain an understanding of common trends, issues and challenges in the higher education environment and implications for students and staff. In addition, participants gained insight into the role of HR in building organisational effectiveness and how to strategically position the HR function to add value to their institutions.

Tarrance Ryder-Downes, said: ‘Representing the ACU at this conference provided a fantastic opportunity to strengthen relationships with ACU members in Pakistan and progress the work of the ACU’s HR in HE Community. Delegates appreciated the potential to develop the role of HR in universities, especially in areas which do not currently form part of the HR function. Insights gained at the conference confirmed that there is a valuable role for the HR in HE Community to support the effectiveness of HR in member universities across the Commonwealth’.
