Fifteen students from UK member institutions will be travelling to summer schools around the Commonwealth this summer, thanks to the ACU's new Global Summer School Grants.

This scheme, which awards travel grants of up to GBP £2000, allows UK undergraduates to participate in a diverse range of summer programmes offered by our members across the Commonwealth.

This year students will be taking part in a range of exciting experiences, from studying Public Health in South Africa, to learning about Canadian culture, benefiting from Kyambogo University's (in Uganda) expertise in natural resources development, and gaining knowledge of the Indian business environment.

The students are:

  • Meran Annalingam from King's College London to Stellenbosch University in South Africa
  • Sarah Buck from University of Winchester to Kyambogo University in Uganda
  • Lewis Clark from University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) to University of Malaya in Malaysia
  • Luke Clayton from University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) to Stellenbosch University in South Africa
  • Amy Collins from University College London to Lovely Professional University in India
  • Katie Guest from King's College London to Stellenbosch University in South Africa
  • Brusten Kevis Habumuremyi from Birmingham City University to University of Alberta in Canada
  • Sarah Jeffrey from SOAS University of London to University of Ibadan in Nigeria
  • Elliot Miles from The University of Sheffield to University of Malaya in Malaysia
  • Christina Pyatt from University of Southampton to Kyambogo University in Uganda
  • Anesa Rahman from SOAS University of London to University of Alberta in Canada
  • Jacob Rix from University College London to Kyambogo University in Uganda
  • Muhammed Sajjad from Sheffield Hallam University to Lovely Professional University in India
  • Emma-Louise Smith from Bucks New University to University of Alberta in Canada
  • Georgina Thornley from Sheffield Hallam University to University of Alberta in Canada

Participating in a short-term mobility experience, such as a summer school, enables students to develop their knowledge, gain international experience, learn new skills, meet people from other countries and increase their intercultural understanding, all while having fun.

The grant scheme will be running again in 2019 and applications will open in January.
