The ACU has a new Chair and a new Strategic Plan, following the Annual General Meeting held in Hong Kong today.

Professor E Nigel Harris, Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, has been elected as the new Chair of the ACU. He succeeds Dr Theuns Eloff, Vice-Chancellor of North-West University, South Africa.

Earlier in the meeting, Honorary Treasurer Professor James McWha (Vice-Chancellor of the University of Adelaide, Australia) announced that the ACU's accounts showed a small surplus for the third successive year, largely as a result of increased revenue from external services and research grants. Membership is at its highest level ever - 528 institutions.

Looking to the future, Secretary General Professor John Wood outlined plans to expand the ACU’s services in the lead-up to the centenary celebrations in 2013. The proposals formed part of the ACU's new Strategic Plan, which was approved by Council earlier this week and will be circulated to members shortly.
