Celebrating International Youth Day 2018

Celebrating International Youth Day 2018

Published on 10 August 2018

On Friday 10 August 2018, this year's International Youth Day celebrations will begin, with a commemoration taking place at the UN Gigiri Complex in Nairobi.

This year, UNDESA and UN Habitat are encouraging young people to come together to celebrate the role of 'Safe Spaces for Youth' in their local communities – and throughout the course of the week, events to celebrate Youth Day will take place all over the world.

The ACU will be commemorating the day in its own special way through social media. Throughout the week we will be releasing blogs, videos and social media posts which commend the power of global youth.

On 7 August we released a blog by Dr Vianne Timmons, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Regina, about how universities can better engage with Generation Z, and on 9 August we posted a response to this by Rosie Riordan, who is a Generation Z-er herself.

We will also be sharing some videos from our recent ACU Summer School in Hong Kong, where students from all over the world were brought together into a safe space to share knowledge and discuss innovative new ideas on creating sustainable communities.

As well as all this, we will be tweeting all day on Sunday 12 August – the official UN International Youth Day – showcasing how ACU member universities are providing safe spaces for youth all around the world.

Join in with the conversation on Twitter using #YouthDay and make sure to keep an eye out for all the exciting content we have planned!
