Prof Budd Hall to deliver ACU Perspectives talk

Published on 15 April 2013

Professor Budd Hall will deliver the fourth talk in the ACU Perspectives speaker series on Thursday 25 April 2013, 6.00 pm (talk to commence at 6.30 pm), at 183 Euston Road (the Wellcome Collection building), London, W1B 1NT.

Budd Hall is Co-Chair of the UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education, and a Professor of Community Development in the School of Public Administration at the University of Victoria, Canada. He will be speaking on knowledge democracy, transformation and higher education, a theme through which, premised on the diminishing confidence in the 'Western canon' of knowledge and the 'one size fits all' approach to global economics, he will assess the challenges to the dominance of traditional knowledge, and will consider what this could mean for the future of higher education and social responsibility.

Under the broad theme of 'Change and opportunity in higher education', the ACU Perspectives speaker series offers ACU members a chance to contribute to debates and discussions on the future of higher education. This platform enables members to share their ideas and experiences, and to bring insights from their own region, institution or discipline.

Professor Hall's talk follows those of Professor Graeme Hugo, Director of the Australian Population and Migration Research Centre at the University of Adelaide; Professor Roger Makanjuola, former vice-chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria; and our inaugural ACU Perspectives speaker, Professor Loyiso Nongxa, vice-chancellor and Principal of the University of Witwatersrand.

Although this forthcoming event is free, attendees are required to register beforehand via this Eventbrite.
